    Really enjoyed reading this book, had to keep the pages turning so had to many late nights!!

    As a huge fan of Keyes I set the benchmark extremely high for all of her literary efforts, this charming man is a non Walsh novel so she would always have to work that bit harder to get me to Invest In the characters. Keyes does what she always does. Introduces you to a group of characters, makes you care about them and then totally pulls the rug from underneath them, in order to highlight a serious social message. People who dismiss Keyes and her peers as chick lit authors might want to read her books and understand the issues she talks about. Lola is instantly likeable as an eccentric youthful stylist with troubles of the heart. Her self imposed exile to a sleepy town in Ireland invites much needed comic relief alongside the primary theme of domestic violence. I won't spoil it for newbies but the scenes in uncle toms cabin are hilarious and the small town mindset where everyone knows everyone else's business add more humour. The darker elements to the story are sobering and dealt with professionally and realism. The character of Marnie is frighteningly real and the downward spiral her life takes makes you turn the pages quicker and quicker. Looking forward to Marian's new book die for release this year!

    The first chapter (Lola's) is definitely slow moving and not easy to swallow, but by golly, it gets better and better as you keep going. Discovering Lola's, Grace's, Marnie's and (a little of) Alicia's stories, backgrounds, personalities and their ties to the infamous Paddy De Courcy is compelling, to say the least. This book is fabulously written, with bits that are funny, sensible, witty, cringe-worthy, tear-jerking and empowering. Marian Keyes, I salute you. This book is nothing short of wonderful in my eyes.

    Admittedly I found it a little hard to get into at first but once I had got through the first chapter i was hooked!.. MK really captures the personalities of each character by changing the writing style for each individual... A really good story line and i felt MK addressed alcoholism and domestic abuse in a sensitive way, i defo feel I understand these issues better! I was disappointed when I'd finished the book!!
