He has kept a blog of his daily working life since 2003 and his award-winning writing is, by turn, moving, cynical, funny, heart-rending and compassionate. It is never less than compelling.

From the tragic to the hilarious, from the heartwarming to the terrifying, the stories Tom tells give a fascinating - and at times alarming - picture of life in inner-city Britain, and the people who are paid to mop up after it.

About the author

Tom Reynolds began work for the NHS when he was 23 and specialised as an A&E nurse. He moved to the London Ambulance Service when he discovered that 'he wanted to 'torture the patients in A&E'. In his own words, this is 'not healthy'. He has kept his critically-acclaimed blog since 2003 and is frequently quoted in the national press. This is his first book.

    I didn't think I'd be interested in this book when I first read some reviews online. They were all positive, of course but when I found out that it was about the London Ambulance Service I opened the book reluctantly. And I don't regret it! It had just the right mixture of humour with a serious element. It gave a very in depth account of what it's like to work in an Ambulance and I recommend to all! Honestly - give it a try. Like me, you won't regret it.

    Great read, really enjoyed the detailed accounts of daily life as an ambulance paramedic and a great insight to the NHS services. From the heartwarming to the heartbreaking this book takes you into the daily life and behind the scene account of an ambulance driver and paramedic who's thoughts and views, although his own, are very honest and relatable. I have read a few books giving insight and personal accounts into the health service but this is by far the best written and most enjoyable yet!

    This book is hilariously funny, exiting, sad, jaw dropping, and more in one! The reality stories of a London ambulance paramedic leave you in awe as you see there life for a change, and get to read about what they witness everyday, from drunks and drug dealers, to strokes and cardiac arrests this is seriously an amazing book and well worth downloading! x
