    The author would have done well to heed his own warnings about excessive cleverness. In attempting to answer lots of Oxford and Cambridge questions on many specialist subjects personally, the author has set himself an impossible task. Inevitably, he has fallen into the trap of giving them superficial treatment. He has tried to correct for this by substituting research for depth of understanding. Unfortunately, the result is to take the book away from the realms of lateral thinking and insight that were the point of the questions in the first place.
